For personal reasons, I have opted to make my blog private to readers. If anyone wishes to read and doesn't have access, just shoot me an email and I'll add their name to the "approved" list.
This morning, I woke up, showered, fed the dog. Things were going well. I had planned to go by Starbucks to get hot cocoa and was even willing to get coffee for the boss. I had parked in front of the apartment building leaving Marc (my brother I rent with) the parking spot, such a considerate sister. Forte had peed and was loaded into the car, he usually is ready to poop when we get to work if you were curious. There was a thick layer of frost on the windows, so I started the engine and grabbed my scraper. While the car was warming up, I was cleaning the windows.
Just as I reached for the driver side door after I was done, I thought that I had hoped I hadn't locked the door. Guess what...
Furiously I wiped the frost from areas I missed because maybe making the frost go away would unlock the car, right? Panic! I started calling everyone I thought might be of some help, but not any luck. I called Murray City Police (crap, 411 charge on cell phone bill). They stated that since there is a dog involved in a running car, the Fire Dept. would be out instead of the Police. Five minutes later, the Sheriff's office called, got the same info and stated someone would be out. Ok. So I waited. I wasn't terribly cold, brilliant me at least was wearing a coat instead of setting in the car like usual.
I waited until 10AM and called the Sheriff's office back. My dad had called and I was upset with frustration that he had not answered my annoying and persistent calls earlier, I told him not to worry. The sheriff's office said there were other priorities holding them up and I let them know of the Fire Dept. from Murray City to whom I was next transferred too. Different dispatcher than from my original call stated the Fire Dept. only come out for children and they'd transfer me back to the Sheriff's office. I cried for them to wait and listen to what I was told. They put me on hold, so man got back on the line. He said that the only thing they could do was to send a deputy out to break my window which they thought that I might not like. He also stated that animal control was notified and maybe they can be of some help.
In tears, I called my dad, apologized, and asked him to come help me. He came at 10:46AM with a spare and unlocked the door, no questions asked. He then went to Home Depot and got another spare made. I felt like such a jackass.
Forte was in the car with engine and heat running for two hours. At least it was not on high, he was actually comfortable. Forte had sat in the driver seat to sleep or keep watching me through the window, a little confused why mom kept standing in the cold and was not in the car. He wasn't harmed, I kept making sure he didn't fall completely asleep. He was so good that he waited to poop OUTSIDE the car.
One neighbor had stopped and asked if I needed a coat hanger, sadly the lock knobs are rounded and the hanger would be useless. I had taken a rock to chuck at the glass that did not work. Either the glass was too strong or more likely I was so distressed that I weakly attempted. I don't have power locks or windows, so getting a puppy excited to step on buttons wouldn't work. Apparently the spare I had attached to my car fell off sometime ago as I found out. My 11 year old car seems to also not be as worn as I thought because there was no way I could work at the windows or other areas in hope they'd loosen up.
Otherwise than that, my day probably wouldn't have sucked so much. It really did not go well in the morning. Oh yeah, Animal Control called around 11:15 stating they were sending an officer out to see if my situation was resolved. They don't have the equipment to unlock my car as they had stated and said I probably should have called a lock smith...two hours and many swear words later too late.
Maybe tomorrow will hold better luck since it is my birthday...

Jeepers, sounds like a crazy morning, I have totally done that before though. Fortunately without the dog in the car part. I can't even imagine how freaked you must have been. But after 2 1/2 hours someone came to help me. After I got to work when someone suggested the locksmith I just about strangled them. Glad that you and Forte are okay. :) And Happy B-day tomorrow. :)
